Casualty ‘Child Of Mine’ ~ Episode Review

Saturday’s episode of Casualty was deeply uncomfortable to watch at times, I was cringing (which is totally what was supposed to have happened, I’m sure and testament to some incredible performances). With Connie (Amanda Mealing) and Grace’s (Emily Carey) relationship at breaking point and David back at work, it was a high tension instalment. Here are the highlights:

Sam Strachan (TOM CHAMBERS), Grace (EMILY CAREY) – (C) BBC – Photographer: Alistair Heap

Grace is gunning ~ Grace (Emily Carey) hasn’t been taking her meds and Connie (Amanda Mealing) is less than thrilled when the discovery is made. Sam (Tom Chambers) is playing good cop in this scenario and seems keen to plough on with making a fuss of the birthday girl. However Connie and Grace’s relationship is floundering sensationally and when Connie realises that Grace can talk. The fact that her daughter spits back at her that she has always been able to but doesn’t want to talk to her is the final nail.

David’s back ~ David (Jason Durr) is back in the ED as a nurse and there are mixed reactions. Charlie (Derek Thompson) and Duffy (Cath Shipton) are supportive of him, but Robyn (Amanda Henderson) and Max (Jamie Davis) are not so happy to see him back. He’s back to his old helpful self though when he goes above and beyond for a patient who opts for a DNR whom he believes deserves a chance of survival. Jacob (Charles Venn) is certainly pleased with his efforts,

Mo Effanga (CHIZZY AKUDOLU) – (C) BBC – Photographer: Alistair Heap

Mo pays a visit ~ Mo (Chizzy Akudolu) hops over to perform surgery and it’s great to see her migrating from Holby City, I’d like to see more of Mo in Casualty, I think she fits in brilliantly

Baby Charlie ~ Robyn (Amanda Henderson) is allowed to bring Charlotte home, finally. Which means that’s the end of the peace and quite for Charlie and Duffy! Immediately, Robyn frets that there’s something the matter with her daughter and asks Lily (Crystal Yu) to take a look. Lily (in her usual manner) explains that what Charlotte’s doing is just what babies do. Robyn gets there in the end, with help, even offering David the opportunity to hold her. However, I foresee a bumpy road ahead for the new mummy.

Lily’s lessons ~ Lily is still teaching Gem (Rebecca Ryan) and there’s quite an amusing scene where Lily is asking how many biscuits she’s taken to try and teach her young charge some maths. I like Lily’s relationship with Gem, of course it’s a prelude to a blossoming romance between Lily and Iain (Michael Stevenson)…
